  Serena Williams

Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1981 and grew up in Compton, California.


Brief History



Serena Williams began playing tennis at a very young age with her older sister Venus. Their father Richard Williams coached them and taught them the game.


Serena turned pro at the age of 14 and won her first Grand Slam at the US Open in 1999. She has since won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, and two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.


Major Achievements



* Winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era
* Holding all four Grand Slam titles simultaneously (2002-2003 and 2014-2015)
